ChatGPT alone can handle a lot. But for everyday jobs like summarizing documents, checking sources and making slides, there are free AI tools that each do one thing especially well. Here are the three tools from our video, laid out so you can follow along right away.
1. Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) — summarizes only the material you give it
Google's NotebookLM was renamed Gemini Notebook in July 2026. It answers using only the PDFs, documents and web pages you add, which makes it especially handy for meeting notes and reports.
- Sign in with your Google account and create a new notebook.
- Under Add sources, add PDFs, Google Docs or web URLs. (Free: 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook)
- Paste the prompt below into the chat.
- In Studio, click Audio Overview to hear your material discussed like a podcast.
Summarize the key points of this material in 5 lines. On the last line, list 3 things I should do right away.
2. Perplexity — every answer comes with sources you can check
Perplexity is a search-style AI. Each answer shows numbered links to the web pages it relied on, so you can open the original and check for yourself.
- Go to perplexity.ai and type your question. (Free: basic searches are effectively unlimited, 3 Pro searches per day)
- Click the numbers in the answer to open the originals, and always re-check important figures at the source.
Find only official sources from the past year about [topic] and summarize them in 3 lines. Cite a source for every sentence.
3. Gamma — a one-line topic becomes a draft slide deck
Gamma turns a topic or outline into a presentation with the design already done.
- Sign up at gamma.app and you get 400 free credits (no card required; they do not refill monthly).
- Go to Create new → Generate, write your topic in one line and choose the number of cards. (Free: up to 10 cards per generation)
- Once the draft appears, edit the wording and switch the theme to finish. The free version may show a "Made with Gamma" badge.
Create an 8-slide training deck on [topic] for new employees. Put one key sentence and one example on each slide.
Using all three together
| Step | Tool | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Perplexity | Find recent material with sources |
| 2 | Gemini Notebook | Add the material and summarize the key points |
| 3 | Gamma | Turn the summary into a draft deck |
- Re-check numbers and dates against the original source
- Check your company's rules before uploading confidential files to an outside AI
- Save the prompts you like and reuse them
