On October 23, Canva released Craft, its own image generation model. The key points: photorealistic images at 2K resolution in any aspect ratio, with text placed inside the image. This post is the companion guide to the Sol AI card news "Canva's new AI Craft: 3 steps to a card news cover."
What's new
According to the announcement, Craft is available now in Canva and to developers through the public API. It creates 2K images in any aspect ratio and is designed so the results stay editable.
Step 01: Open Dream Lab from the bottom left panel
Craft is available to all Canva users. Open Dream Lab in the bottom left panel of the editor to start.
Step 02: Write the scene and the text together
As in Canva's own example, ask for "a purple sky, long shadows and a lone tree" and you get all three, with the emphasis where you wanted it. Prompts can be written in any language, and Craft can create text in 55 languages. With more than 30 aspect ratios, or your own, you can size covers, stories and banners separately.

Step 03: Fix text and elements separately with Magic Layers
Craft treats the whole image as a composition of layered elements, and converting images into editable layers with Magic Layers is now more accurate and faster. If one word looks off, fix that text layer instead of regenerating the image.
