3 Steps to Get ChatGPT Memory to Analyze How You Work

AI adoption guideSOL LABS AI2 min read

After using ChatGPT for a while, it can feel like it knows you pretty well. That's Memory at work. You can turn this around and ask about the strengths and weaknesses of how you work. This post is the companion guide to the Sol AI card news "What happens when you ask ChatGPT to analyze you?"

Checked on 2026-10-28 against OpenAI's help article "Memory in ChatGPT." Memory features and controls vary by plan, region and platform. If a setting isn't visible, it may not be available for your account yet.

What Memory is

According to the help article, when Memory is enabled ChatGPT can remember relevant preferences and details from your chats and other sources, such as past chats, saved memories and custom instructions. It doesn't keep every detail; it looks for relevant context when it's likely to improve a response.

Step 02: Ask in one line

The help article notes that you can ask ChatGPT what it remembers about you. Narrow it to work:

Based on our chats so far, tell me 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses in how I work,
with one line of evidence for each.

Then follow up:

For each weakness, suggest one routine I can start tomorrow.

Step 03: Turn off, delete, opt out of training

  • Turn off or delete: In the same Memory menu you can correct or delete remembered information and turn Memory off. Turning it off doesn't delete past chats.
  • When you don't want a record: A non-personalized temporary chat doesn't use or create memories.
  • Model training: For personal accounts, chats may be used to improve models when "Improve the model for everyone" is on; you can turn it off in Data controls.
